Our Process

Not sure what work is required on your site before building? We are here to give you the best expert advice. We can arrange a site inspection and provide a comprehensive quote outlining the necessary work for your location.

For a stress-free building experience we have you covered, let us take care of everything from start to finish.

START HERE...

INITIAL ENQUIRY
Email, phone or pop in to visit to obtain a price guide, build specification and for transportable homes a transport estimate. We can discuss your build location and logistics for either a transportable or a build on-site home.

TRANSPORT OR BUILD ONSITE
If your site is within 1 hour of Hamilton, we can build your home directly on your site. This will save the cost of transportation and gives you more choice when it comes to layout & material choices, like a concrete floor or adding on a garage.

CHOOSE A PLAN
Choose a plan you love, from one of our 3 ranges, Transportable, Lifestyle or Contemporary, with flexibility to modify or take inspiration from them to create a bespoke design of your own. Our expert team can cater to your ideas, budget and timeframe, while also providing practical advice on the best layouts and material choices.
At this point we will also discuss your specific site requirements and may require such information as your site address, title, subdivision covenants, design committee guidelines and geotech reports.

DESIGN BESPOKE
If you want to create a bespoke design, schedule a time to sit down with our design team to bring your dream home ideas to reality with our full design and build service. We aim to infuse your individuality, family, and way of life into every aspect of your build. We're not just crafting a house; we're shaping your new lifestyle. With a focus on quality and the assurance of the Master build Guarantee your new home is in excellent hands, with Kiwi Designed Homes.

ESTIMATE & QUOTE
Once you have chosen your design, we can supply an estimate. If you are happy with the estimate and want to proceed with your new build, we will issue a formal quote clearly outlining what is included and what is not. We will also provide a list of any additional options you have requested.

MASTER BUILD CONTRACT & DEPOSIT
Once you have signed your build quote, we will supply a Master Build Contract for you to sign.
Upon signing this contract, a small deposit is required before we organise any required engineer reports or instruct our designers to prepare your drawings for submission to council.

COUNCIL APPROVAL
Once the plans have been prepared and confirmed we will submit the application to council for building consent approval. After council have received the submission processing time can take between 3-4 weeks. If a resource consent or more information is required by council this can take longer.

PRE-PRODUCTION MEETING
We take the opportunity to meet with you to go through all the specifications of your build, this is when your will choose your flooring, hardware, glass, bathroom fixtures and paint colours. From this we will order the necessary materials and organise our builders and specialist trades. After this we will arrange a meeting with you and the kitchen designer to choose the layout, colours and features of your new kitchen.

IT'S PRODUCTION TIME!
Let's get building! Once council have consented your plans, we can start construction on your new home. For on-site builds this will begin with excavation and foundations - this can be the trickiest part of the build process dependent on ground conditions, foundation type and weather during construction. For transportable builds it will start with building the floor in our yard. Build time is usually around 14-16 weeks, for larger more complex on-site builds, or sections that require a lot of retaining, this may take longer approximately 16-26 weeks.

VARIATIONS
If you want, you are able to make changes throughout the design and build stage. However, please note that the earlier the changes are made the lower the cost impact and potential delays will be. Changes made at a late stage can be costly, particularly if on-site alterations are required. Variations are charged out separate to your contract stage payments. For each variation we will send you a quote, if you are happy to go ahead with it, then we will issue an invoice.

WALKTHROUGH
Once the roof is on, we will arrange a walkthrough, where you will meet with the production manager and electrician to go through room and electrical layouts as well as the placement of fixtures and fittings. An important part of the build process.

PROGRESS UPDATES
During the construction phase we will keep you updated on site activities with fortnightly reports and photos via the customer Dropbox link. If required, we can also arrange site visits in person. Please note that, for health & safety and insurance reasons, client access is by arrangement only.

HANDOVER
Prior to handover day we carry out a final inspection to ensure everything is completed to a high standard, conduct any touch ups required and then arrange for the house to be cleaned. We take care of all the council requirements and will submit your application for the final code of compliance. Once all accounts have been finialised we will arrange a time with you to handover the keys to your new home and run through all the home features. This is the best part of the build process, we love seeing our excited customers receive their new homes!

AFTERCARE
Should there be any issues you encounter after completion we will attend to these within the following timeframes

  • Urgent issues 24-48 hours
  • Non-urgent issues 7-14 days
  • General minor issues 12 months as per contract
  • Please note these times are subject to availability of materials
